LPA Near Davao May Intensify; Scattered Rains and Dangerous Heat Index Persist - April 29, 2025

A Low Pressure Area (LPA), tagged as #99W, has been spotted 695 kilometers east of Davao City and is projected to move closer to the Philippine landmass in the coming days. According to multiple numerical weather models, the LPA has a moderate chance of developing into a tropical cyclone. Its trough is already bringing scattered rain showers, thunderstorms, and lightning over Caraga and the Davao Region.

Meanwhile, the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ)—where air masses from the northern and southern hemispheres meet—is also causing widespread cloudiness and thunderstorms across the rest of Mindanao and parts of Palawan.

The easterlies, or warm winds from the Pacific, are influencing weather conditions in the rest of the country, resulting in generally fair weather but with a chance of isolated thunderstorms, particularly in Metro Manila and other Luzon and Visayas areas.

Despite rain in some regions, much of the country remains under threat from dangerously high heat indices, with Sangley Point in Cavite recording 45°C and several other areas, including Metro Manila, Camarines Sur, and Iloilo, registering between 42°C to 44°C. Authorities advise the public to stay hydrated and avoid prolonged outdoor exposure.
